BENGALURU: A 30-year-old private company employee complained to city police that a man who identified himself as Andy Michel from England cheated her of Rs 4.6 lakh after promising to marry her.
The complainant, a resident of Parappana Agrahara in southeast Bengaluru, said the accused befriended her through a marriage portal in December 2019. Introducing himself as a bachelor running a software business in England, Michel allegedly agreed to marry her.
They then decided to tie the knot before May.
Michel allegedly told the woman he would fly down to Delhi in March and would bring her gold ornaments as a gift. On March 8, the woman received a call from Michel saying custom officials at Delhi airport had detained him for carrying a huge quantity of gold.
"He requested me to transfer Rs 4.6 lakh to his account so that he could pay towards clearance charges and come to Bengaluru with the gold. I transferred the amount immediately and since then his phone is switched off," the complainant told police.
