KANPUR: A pregnant woman and her husband, working as daily wagers at a construction site in Noida for five years, walked over 200 kms to reach their village Aunta in Rath area of Jalaun district on Sunday. Anju Devi (25), an eight months' pregnant, covered the distance in two days and two nights.
After reaching Rath, Ashok (28), her husband, went to a Community Health Centre where they underwent medical checkup.
Doctors, conducted a thermal screening and declared the couple to be normal. However, they were instructed to keep themselves in quarantine for 14 days.
Ashok is a landless farmer and works at a construction site in Noida. They walked for 200km up to Orai and finally reached Rath on a loader. Anju's in-laws heaved a sigh of relief when she reached home along with her husband. They were in constant touch with them through their mobile phone and praying for their safe return.
“I was worried for my child who is yet to come. I am now happy. We couldn’t move out early due to delay in payment by contractor," said Anju.
While leaving Noida on March 25, the couple carried with them `puri' and `sabji', which they consumed the same night. "After that we lived on whatever was served by people on the highway," Ashok added.
