21-day leave for juveniles in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh: Panel

Juvenile Justice Monitoring Committee chairperson Justice Jaswant Singh has asked all district and sessions judges in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to direct principal magistrates to "consider the cases of juveniles for leave of absence for 21 days for those who are undertrial or convicted of committing an offence not declared heinous".

The order stated to consider the cases of juvenile in conflict with law as per Section 9 of Juvenile Justice Act.
CHANDIGARH: Juvenile Justice Monitoring Committee chairperson Justice Jaswant Singh has asked all district and sessions judges in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to direct principal magistrates to "consider the cases of juveniles for leave of absence for 21 days for those who are undertrial or convicted of committing an offence not declared heinous".
The order stated to consider the cases of juvenile in conflict with law as per Section 9 of Juvenile Justice Act.
Children placed in observation home, special home and places of safety be released on leave of absence considering the outbreak of coronavirus, the committee said.
It was ordered that a medical examination of the juvenile would be conducted at the time of release and readmission in the shelter home to rule out the possibility of any kind of infection
All children convicted or undergoing inquiry or booked for large recovery under NDPS Act or under Section 379 B of the IPC and under POCSO Act or offence of rape or of acid attack and those undergoing inquiry in more than two cases or for any heinous offences would not be considered.
