Coronavirus crisis: Katrina Kaif donates to PM-CARES Fund and Maharashtra CM's Relief Fund
Katrina Kaif has donated an undisclosed amount to PM-CARES Fund and Maharashtra CM'S Relief Fund to help fight the novel coronavirus.

Katrina Kaif is the latest Bollywood celebrity to donate towards PM-CARES Fund and Maharashtra Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The actress on Monday announced that she has contributed towards the cause without disclosing the amount she has donated.

Katrina Kaif shared a statement, which read, "I pledge to donate to the PM CARES Fund and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Maharashtra. Heartbreaking to see the hardship and suffering this pandemic has unleashed in the world (sic)."

Before Katrina, Anushka Sharma also donated Rs 3 crore with her cricketer husband Virat Kohli.

Akshay Kumar on Saturday announced that he has donated Rs 25 crore for the cause. He wrote, "This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai. (sic)."

Salman Khan, on the other hand, supported 25,000 daily wage workers from the film industry. The actor, through his Being Human Foundation, approached Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE) and expressed his desire to help the workers who lost their source of income because of the lockdown.

FWICE President BN Tiwari told PTI, "Salman's Being Human Foundation has come forward to help daily wage workers. They called us three days ago. We have about 5 lakh workers out of which 25,000 are in dire need of financial help. Being Human Foundation said they will take care of these workers on their own. They have asked for account details of these 25,000 workers as they want to ensure that money reaches them directly."

The novel coronavirus has wreaked havoc across the world. In India, the number of cases are increasing exponentially. On Monday, the country recorded the highest single-day spike in fresh cases of novel coronavirus with the number crossing 1,300. The death toll due to Covid-19 reached 38 after six people from Telangana, who attended a religious congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin, died due to the novel coronavirus.
