Covid-19: Ambulance drivers, EMT staff on strike in UP's Prayagraj

Around 86 ambulance drivers associated with 102 and 108 and EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) staff on Tuesday afternoon went on strike alleging that they were not provided mask, gloves and sanitizers while performing their duties.

PRAYAGRAJ: Around 86 ambulance drivers associated with 102 and 108 and EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) staff on Tuesday afternoon went on strike alleging that they were not provided mask, gloves and sanitizers while performing their duties.
However, six ambulances associated with Covid-19 surveillance were operational throughout the day.
District president of the Ambulance Employees Union Ashish Mishra said, “Majority of ambulance drivers and EMT staff have no protection kit like sanitizer, gloves and masks in view of the deadly Covid-19 virus outbreak.
He added that all the drivers and EMT staff were at risk.
He also added that PF amount has not been deposited to their accounts for the past eight months and salaries of the past two months were also not paid.
On being contacted, Additional CMO ( Administration) Dr Ashok said that health officials are talking with agitating employees and the issues would be resolved soon. He, however, said that as many as six ambulances attached with Covid-19 are still operational.
