Bengaluru Rural district police has suspended a head constable attached to Sarjapur police station for allegedly issuing a curfew pass to a private individual to take 24 persons to Rajasthan in two private vehicles.

BENGALURU: Bengaluru Rural district police has suspended a head constable attached to Sarjapur police station for allegedly issuing a curfew pass to a private individual to take 24 persons to Rajasthan in two private vehicles.
Ravi D Channannanavar, superintendent of police (Bengaluru Rural), on Saturday issued the order suspending Veerabhadrappa. His superior Harish V, subinspector, has been asked to give an explanation about the incident.

While police have authority to issue curfew passes to essential staff and their vehicles, Sarjapur police issued an emergency pass to one Pookraj Jawan, a businessman, allowing him to take 24 other men to Rajasthan between March 27 and March 31.
“The passes were issued to two Tempo Traveller vehicles bearing registration numbers KA-41-A-4723 and KA-05-AE-7343. The permission for emergency travel was issued from March 27 to March 31,” a police officer said.
An initial probe was launched as soon as senior police officers learnt that passes were issued. The probe revealed that the passes were issued by Veerabhadrappa. A departmental enquiry in ongoing.
