NAVI MUMBAI: The number of vehicles that arrived at the APMC more than doubled to 684 on Tuesday as compared to 330 on Monday. The grain and fruit market topped arrival of stocks, while the vegetable market trailed. The pattern revealed stock availability and requirement of food essentials with dal, rice topping the menu during lockdown across income strata.

Rice (common variety) alone accounted for around 50% of the total 3,361 tonnes of all arrivals at the grain market. While no vehicle had come to the grain market Monday, the onion and potato market had the second highest number of vehicles (Monday) at 117 out of 330 vehicles. APMC said around 60% of onion and potato was unsold.
