Karnataka: 11 people linked to Tablighi meet test positive for Covid-19 in Bidar

Eleven people from Bidar who were found to have links with Tablighi Jamaat, the largest known Covid-19 hotspot in India, tested positive for the infection.

BIDAR: Eleven people from Bidar who were found to have links with Tablighi Jamaat, the largest known Covid-19 hotspot in India, tested positive for the infection.
Bidar district administration has identified 32 people who had attended Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi. As the news broke of Markaz gathering all the district administrations scrambled to trace attendees.
Especially in north Karnataka the Tablighi community is popular among rural and urban poor due to regions proximity of Hyderabad in Telangana and Latur in Maharashtra.
The community preachers travel door to door in rural pockets propagating their version of Islam extensively that makes belief strong among economically backward.
According to Bidar district administration among samples of 26 people sent for testing, 11 tested positive.
Bidar now became fresh district to report the outbreak and the 13th district reporting the pandemic, deputy Commissioner (DC) H R Mahadev confirmed to TOI.
On Wednesday Mahadev had informed that 32 people were identified and 26 are already in isolation and no one showed symptoms. But samples were sent for testing. The test reports arrived on Thursday. Now it has emerged that 11 have contracted disease that has infected over 2,000 in India.
