Two men were arrested after police discovered almost 100 cannabis plants at a house in Coundon.

Officers out on patrol discovered the illicit farm after checking out reports of the men acting suspiciously in an alleyway on Monday (March 30).

They found one was in possession of a front-door key and when they searched the address in Meriden Street, on the fringes of the city centre, they found 95 plants.

Both men were arrested and the haul was recovered.

The arrests are among a number made by police in Coventry this week as they continue normal operations amid the coronavirus lockdown.

A spokesman for the force said: "We discovered 95 cannabis plants at an address in Meriden Street, Coventry, on March 30.

"Two men, aged 27 and 32, were arrested in an alleyway near the property on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

"They were later released with no further action."

In May 2019, West Midlands Police uncovered 100 cannabis plants in the Bordesley Green area of Birmingham following a tip-off from a suspicious landlord.

Police estimated the drugs, which had been grown by a tenant, were worth around £100,000.

In the UK, cannabis is categorised as a Class B drug which will result in penalties for those found in possession, dealing or producing the substance.
