Former North Dakota State head football coach Craig Bohl and his wife, Leia, are making a $100,000 donation to the University of Wyoming Athletics Department, the school's athletic website announced Friday, April 3.

The Wyoming head football coach donated the money to fund scholarship costs for spring sports athletes at the school that want to return for the 2020-21 school year. The NCAA canceled spring sports championships in all divisions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The NCAA recently ruled that Division I athletes who had their spring sports seasons canceled were awarded an additional season of competition and an extension of their period of eligibility.

The cost of covering scholarship dollars for returning seniors, however, would have to be funded by each school's athletic department.

"Leia and I have been blessed by our time at Wyoming," Bohl said in a news release. "This is an opportunity for us to give back to the young people who represent the university too well. Tough times don't last, but tough people do."

Bohl has coached the Cowboys for six seasons. Prior to that, he was the Bison head coach for 11 seasons, winning thee consecutive Division I FCS national titles with NDSU in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons.

"I applaud the Bohls for this commitment," said Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman. "Coach knew how bad I wanted to fund those senior scholarships, but in our current financial situation I couldn't. Craig and Leia are invested in Wyoming like no other head-coaching family in my time here."
