NEW ULM — On March 3, Ellie and Terry Sveine, members of the New Ulm Optimist Club, attended a meeting of the Bridgetown, Barbados Optimist Club.

When Sue Fix, one of our local club members associated with people on the international level, heard the Sveines were going to Barbados, she said they must meet up with the club there. Ellie said, “They were very welcoming and were eager to hear about projects our club did. They were amused and confused over the concept of selling cheese curds, as they didn’t know what they were!”

The Optimist Club just celebrated their 100th Anniversary of existence and is an international service group that raises money to support youth projects in over 100 countries around the world. Their mission is to, “Bring out the best in youth, our community, and ourselves.”

The New Ulm club started in 1997 and is open to anyone over 18.
