The long-awaited Marvel movie Black Widow will finally delve into what Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) has been doing between other MCU films. In a perfect world, Black Widow would be arriving in theaters just under a month from now. However, the coronavirus pandemic has postponed most major Hollywood films for the next few months, and Black Widow is no exception. While the film's delay was originally indefinite, Black Widow has now officially received a new release date: November 6, thus shifting fellow Marvel film Eternals as well as most of the Phase Four slate.

Fans already know Black Widow will be a prequel, largely because Natasha died in 2019's Avengers: Endgame after sacrificing herself for the Soul Stone. Taking place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Black Widow will fill in the blanks of how Natasha went from turning her back on the Sokovia Accords to going on the run with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). The film will also finally explore Natasha's backstory, something that has only been briefly touched upon in previous MCU movies. Fans are especially eager to learn more about the former assassin, and they were definitely disappointed to learn they'd have to wait a bit longer for the film.

In the most recent issue of Total Film, Marvel head Kevin Feige offered some new teases about what fans can expect from Black Widow. Feige acknowledged Natasha's fascinating background and said that they have "hinted at it throughout all the other films." However, when it comes to Black Widow, "we approach it in a completely unexpected way." Feige then added, "She’s been up to a lot all along – in between when we see her in the other movies – some of which will be surprising to people."

Black Widow aiming her stinger in Captain America: Civil War

It sounds like fans might learn more about Natasha's non-Avenger adventures even beyond those that took place in between Civil War and Infinity War. This was already hinted at in the trailers, which featured a de-aged General Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt). While Natasha has appeared in a few non-Avengers films, never before have the movies explored that Natasha has done on her own, leading to a lot of unanswered questions. It seems likely that much of Natasha's time has been spent working to dismantle the Red Room that trained her, and that work could have spanned years.

It's not clear exactly how much time will be spent on what Natasha's done in between various movies, but Black Widow could certainly feature a few flashbacks that would shed more light on Natasha's MCU journey. One time frame that might be interesting to explore is between Captain America: The Winter Soldier (which is arguably Natasha's best film so far) and Avengers: Age of UltronAt the end of The Winter Soldier, Nat told Steve she was headed out on her own to make some new aliases, and a shot in the Black Widow trailer shows her looking at a collection of fake IDs. Regardless of what moments the film chooses to show, Black Widow is shaping up to be the Natasha Romanoff film fans have wanted for a very, very long time.
