UP: 1 from Meerut, 5 Shamli residents test positive for Covid-19

A 33-year-old person from Meerut has tested positive for Covid-19 in Kanpur, taking the total no. of cases in the district to 33. Meanwhile, five people from Shamli - all being Jamaatis - tested positive for coronavirus at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College on Sunday - taking Shamli district’s tally to 11.

MEERUT: A 33-year-old person from Meerut has tested positive for Covid-19 in Kanpur, taking the total no. of cases in the district to 33. Meanwhile, five people from Shamli - all being Jamaatis - tested positive for coronavirus at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College on Sunday - taking Shamli district’s tally to 11.
"All the 23 samples of Sardhana Jamaatis which were sent for testing to LLRM Medical College tested negative here.
However, one Meerut resident tested positive in Kanpur and is currently admitted there - thereby taking the district’s tally to 33," said Meerut chief medical officer Dr Raj Kumar.
Authorities say that the 33-year-old man belonged to Sarai Lal Das locality near Ghantaghar in Meerut and the area will be sealed to conduct sanitisation and check for symptoms of people in the area.
"Five cases of Shamli tested positive at the laboratory on Sunday. All of them were Jamaatis and the details have been sent to Shamli district authorities so that tracing of the contacts can be done and the containment plan can be brought into action," said Dr Amit Garg, head, microbiology department, LLRM Medical College.
Meanwhile, 38 teams covered 3,557 houses on Sunday covering a population of 18,371 people.
