PRAYAGRAJ: An Indonasian national was among the first two coronavirus case reported from Kaushambi district on Monday.
The second case was that of a youth who had returned from Jodhpur district in Rajasthan last week, district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma told TOI.
The youth’s swab sample was sent to KGMU, Lucknow on April 3 after he complained of flu-like symptoms similar to Covid-19 infection.
The test report received by health officials late on Sunday confirmed that he had contracted coronavirus infection, Verma added.
“The youth, a resident of Sirathu tehsil, is in isolation ward of the district hospital in Manjhanpur,” the DM added.
The youth works in a factory in Jodhpur. He had returned on March 29 and was taken to a quarantine centre set up at the village by officials of the health department. Three days ago, he was shifted to isolation ward of district hospital in Manjhanpur where doctors noticed symptoms similar to coronavirus infection.
The officials have also quarantined seven others who came in contact with him.
Kaushambi police have sealed the village and put barricading at all the entry points.

Besides, late on Sunday, an Indonesian, who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi on March 12-13 and arrived in Prayagraj on March 22, tested positive for Covid-19.
Prayagraj chief medical officer Dr GS Bajpayee said, “One Indonesian national, aged about 35 years, tested positive on Sunday and has been quarantined at Covid L1 hospital, Kotwa.”
“Total 23 samples were sent to KGMU for testing. One tested positive, 19 were negative and the report of three others is awaited,” the CMO added.
Last Friday, three Jamaat members had tested positive in Pratapgarh district following which police on Sunday sealed and sanitised Jama Masjid, Narsinghgarh and Delupur villages, and the Begum ward of the district hospital, where the three had stayed after coming from Delhi.
