Deceased man identified in Brevard County shooting near Satellite Beach

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies were investigating a fatal Sunday afternoon shooting in a beachside neighborhood in unincorporated Brevard County near Satellite Beach.

The shooting happened at about 5 p.m. in the area of South Point Court, just west of South Patrick Drive, authorities and witnesses reported.

Deputies arrived to find 40-year-old James Robertson suffering a gunshot wound. He was treated but died at the scene, according to BCSO reports.

James Robertson, 40, was pronounced dead after a fatal shooting near Satellite Beach on Sunday, April 5, 2020.

The shooting was reported when 911 dispatchers received a call from someone saying they had just shot a family member during a domestic dispute, according to crime reports.

Citing Marsy's Law—which allows crime victims from having their names publicly released—the Sheriff's Office did not name the shooter as of Monday afternoon.

The results of the investigation will be sent to the State Attorney's office where charges may or may not be filed, according to BCSO.

The beachside shooting was one of two that was reported in Brevard County Sunday.
