VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported two more Covid-19-related deaths on Monday. The state witnessed three deaths so far. On the other hand, the state reported 51 fresh positive cases, taking the number of cases to 303.
Kurnool alone contributed 21 new cases to the tally, followed by Nellore 8, West Godavari 6, Visakhapatnam 5, Kadapa 4, Anantapur 3, Guntur 2 and Krishna and Prakasam one case each.
According to the health officials, about 275 Covid-19 cases have direct or indirect links to the Delhi meetings.
The 64-year-old deceased male from Hindupur was a close contact of a Mecca returnee. According to the health authorities, he approached the Government General Hospital in Anantapur in a reportedly deteriorated health condition on April 1. Medical personnel there collected the swab from him, which consequently tested positive for Covid-19. The patient had other comorbidities such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He passed away on April 4 in the hospital while receiving the treatment.
The other death case reported on Monday was a 55-year-old male from Machilipatnam, who was admitted to the local government hospital on April 2. He was subsequently transferred to the state-level Covid hospital in Vijayawada upon exhibiting Covid symptoms on April 4. He had other comorbidities such as asthma and bronchial issues. The businessman, who died on April 4, travelled to Berhampur in Odisha on February 27 and arrived back in the town on February 29 in a train. His other travel history only included a visit to the One Town area in Vijayawada on March 19, leaving the officials perplexed over the origin of the disease.
Speaking to ToI, Krishna District Collector A Md Imtiaz said that they have been tracking all the contacts of the deceased person from Machilipatnam and sent nearly 30 primary contacts of the patient to the isolation wards. “People should come forward for testing and should ignore the symptoms,” said Imtiaz.
In Visakhapatnam, of the five positive cases reported on Monday, three people attended the Delhi meetings. Two out of these three positive patients belong to Tamil Nadu, while the third person operates a mutton centre in Gajuwaka of the city. The two other cases are the contact ones of an earlier infected youth, who reportedly acquired the diseases after travelling to Mumbai.
A total of six Covid patients were successfully treated and discharged from various hospitals in the state as of Monday.
