    Russia ready to start testing coronavirus vaccines on humans in June

    • The head of a top Russian research centre told President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday that his lab was ready to start human trials of experimental coronavirus vaccines in June.
    • Rinat Maksyutov, head of the Vektor State Virology and Biotechnology Centre, said his facility proposed first-phase clinical trials of three vaccines from June 29, on 180 volunteers.
    • Maksyutov was speaking during a video-link meeting between Putin and the heads of top research centres.

    • The European Commission will on Wednesday consider how to craft a plan to ease the bloc out of a virus lockdown that has dealt a body blow to the economies of EU members.
    • Commission president Ursula von der Leyen will hold an "orientation debate" with commissioners by videoconference after some EU countries announced they were already planning to relax measures.
    • Both Austria and Denmark have said they will start phasing out restrictions from next week, while still keeping social-distancing rules and frequent hand washing instructions in place.

    Paramedic attached to isolation ward in Bihar hospital assaulted by neighbours

    • A paramedic working at an isolation ward of a hospital on Tuesday alleged that she was beaten up by her neighbours who said they would be infected with coronavirus if she enters her house using a gate adjacent to theirs, police said.
    • The complainant, Neelu Kumari, is married to Amulya Singh a resident of Meerganj locality under Town police station area of the district and she works at the Begusarai Sadar Hospital as an auxiliary nurse midwife.

    Military promises Pakistani doctors gear to fight virus

    • Pakistan's military promised Tuesday that dozens of doctors who were briefly jailed for protesting a lack of protective equipment needed to treat the growing number of coronavirus cases will get the equipment they need.
    • The 47 doctors protested in Quetta, the capital of southwestern Baluchistan province, on Monday, when they were detained. They were released later the same day, according to provincial spokesman Liaquat Shahwani.

    Formula One shutdown period extended to five weeks

    • Formula One's mandatory shutdown period will be extended by a further two weeks following the delay to the season caused by the coronavirus pandemic, world motorsport's governing body confirmed Tuesday.
    • The decision to prolong the break during which no staff members related to car performance are allowed to work will be extended from 21 to 35 days.
    • The traditional summer shutdown was brought forward from August last month and increased from two to three weeks.

    • The health ministry has framed detailed guidelines to manage suspected and confirmed Covid-19 cases in separate graded facilities. The Centre has decided to grade facilities and designate them as Covid Care Centre (CCC), Dedicated Covid Health Centre (DCHC) and Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH).

    Centre directs states to assign 'unique identifier' to contracted or suspected individuals

    • The Centre has directed states to assign a “unique identifier” to each person who has contracted or is suspected of having contracted Covid-19, as part of efforts to contain the spread of the disease.
    • Under the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the Centre, states have been asked to allot unique COV-COUN-ST-DIS-YR-Case numbers, where the first three characters signify the disease, the next three are for country code, followed by two for state code, three for district code, two for year of disease onset and the last four are the serial number of the case in that year in the same district.

    • The European Central Bank took more emergency action Tuesday to keep credit flowing to companies in the 19 countries that use the euro by easing its rules for lending to banks that serve those businesses.

    23-day-old baby found positive for COVID-19 in Telangana

    • A 23-day-old baby is among three COVID-19 cases reported at Mahabubnagar in Telangana on Tuesday, all of whom have been infected from the Tablighi Jamaat event returnees.
    • With this the total number of people in the district who have been infected has reached 10, officials said.

    Case against 6 Malaysians for not disclosing Delhi visit

    • A case has been registered against a group of six Malaysians on the charge of violating visa norms and not disclosing to the authorities about their attendance at the religious meeting in Delhi last month and staying in the city, police said on Tuesday.

    Testing of samples begins in Mizoram

    • Mizoram began testing samples of persons suspected to be infected with novel coronavirus at a state-run hospital on Tuesday, Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said.
    • He said that a COVID-19 testing laboratory was set up at the Zoram Medical College in just eight days.

    Maha: Inquest can be waived if suspected COVID-19 patient dies

    • The Maharashtra government said on Tuesday that the police can decide not to conduct inquest after the death of a suspected coronavirus patient at hospital.
    • As the doctors and paramedical staff, as well as police personnel, can contract coronavirus infection during the inquest procedure, this waiver was being granted, said a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the Home Department.
