A way-too-early look at Texas A&M’s 2020 football schedule

Will the Aggies earn double-digit wins for the first time since 2012?

Biggest nonconference game: vs. Colorado, Sept. 19

The Aggies and Buffaloes first met in 1995, and their history isn’t one that favors A&M. In nine matchups over the past 25 years, A&M has come out on top just three times and Colorado has outscored the Aggies 239-194. The last meeting between the two in 2009 ended in a close 35-34 A&M loss, but the final game before A&M opens SEC play shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for Jimbo Fisher’s 2020 squad.

Game they shouldn’t win but might: at Alabama, Nov. 21

Alabama is an obvious challenge. The last time the Aggies had a win over the Crimson Tide was in 2012, and it came on the road. Since then, the smallest margin of victory for Alabama in Tuscaloosa has been 19 points. With the Crimson Tide having to replace quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after his departure for the NFL draft and A&M returning the bulk of its offense, now is as good a time as any for the Aggies to get a win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Game they should win but might not: at Mississippi State, Oct. 3

Heading into their fifth game of the season, the Aggies will take on Mississippi State in their first true road game of the year. A&M has historically struggled on the road, especially against Mississippi teams. With an 18-16 away game record during their time in the SEC, which includes an undefeated six-game road slate in 2012, the Aggies have gone 5-4 in the Magnolia State. Additionally, the last time the Aggies won a road game against Mississippi State was during their first year in the SEC. A road game in Starkville may wreak havoc on what could potentially be A&M’s best season since 2012.
