Doctors in Navi Mumbai operate on pregnant Covid-19 patient. Successfully deliver baby girl
Doctors at a government hospital in Navi Mumbai performed a medical feat by delivering a child whose mother was detected to be Covid-19 positive.
A Navi Mumbai municipal hospital managed a spectacular medical feat on Monday afternoon. A pregnant woman suffering from coronavirus was operated upon and delivered her baby.
The Navi Mumbai hospital is a First Referral Unit at Ghansoli.
The team of doctors led by Dr Rajesh Mhatre received a patient who was full-term pregnant and was tested and found to be coronavirus positive on Sunday evening.
The doctors had a dilemma at hand as they did not want to immediately start treating the woman for Covid-19. According to the doctors, this could adversely affect the foetus as well. But since the patient did need to be medicated, the doctors decided to take the risk and conducted a c-section operation.
But before the operation, they needed to help the patient understand why it was needed. Only after she understood the procedure and her consent was taken that the five-member team immediately got down to work.
The woman is a resident of Mumbai but had travelled to Navi Mumbai before the lockdown as her parents live there. She delivered a girl child on Monday afternoon.
The baby girl was immediately put in the baby box and is said to be doing fine. The child too is being tested to find out if she too has been infected by the coronavirus.
Soon after the operation, the woman was administered medicines for the treatment of Covid-19 as well and is said to be responding to the medicines well.
