NAVI MUMBAI: A 34-year-old woman from Ghansoli, who tested positive for Covid-19, delivered a girl at the NMMC general hospital in Vashi on Monday. Whether the baby needs to be tested for Covid-19 will be decided after consulting the paediatrician, said NMMC medical officer Dr Balasaheb Sonawane.
A C-section was performed on the woman, who has dextrocardia, a rare condition wherein the heart is located on the right side of the chest.
The baby weighs 2.4kg. “As the woman is Covid-19 positive, she cannot feed the baby. We will consult the paediatrician to see if the baby can be fed by extracting mother’s milk. As of now the baby has been kept in the NICU.”
Dr Sonawane said, “Her report came positive on Sunday. She was immediately admitted to the isolation ward where she delivered the child on Monday.”
