Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United are still holding internal discussions about transfer targets amid the suspension of football.

Fifa confirmed on Tuesday the summer transfer window, originally due to open on June 1, would now 'fall between the end of the old season and the start of the new season', now that it has been accepted league seasons will run well into the summer.

United are interested in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, and Leicester City playmaker James Maddison and could also bolster their midfield. United finalised their shortlist of summer targets in January and aim to execute deals in February with a view to concluding them as early as possible in the summer.

Maddison wants to join United, the club are understood to have had an opening approach rejected for Grealish, 24, and Dortmund have all but accepted they will sell Sancho while he still has two years left on his contract.

"Football is going to get back to normality at one point," Solskjaer told Sky Sports. "And it's very important we're ready when that happens. We want to be the best at everything, and of course now is a chance to spend more time [to] discuss players, discuss plans.

"We've evaluated what we need, of course, with the coaching staff. We've looked at games, evaluated games, discussing on video calls like this. Then, the market, who knows how the market is going to react to this? Who knows which clubs need to sell players?

"There might be just a situation there where you can exploit, and I know that we at Man United we are one of the biggest and financially well-off. I'm sure we are capable, when we get back to normality, that we can do the business that we want to."

Solskjaer has an enviable hit-rate in the transfer market since he was appointed United manager. His first signing, the £15million Daniel James, has exceeded expectations in his maiden Premier League season, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has excelled at right-back, and Harry Maguire became the fastest United signing to be made club captain.

Bruno Fernandes has been totemic since he joined for a fee rising to £68m in the winter window and loanee Odion Ighalo has plundered four goals in three starts. United could sign Ighalo, 30, permanently from Shanghai Shenhua.
