They accounted for 4,347 of 5,194 reported cases in the country on Wednesday. Except for Kerala and Karnataka, the progression rate in the remaining 8 states doubled between April 1 and 7.
The health ministry had said on Sunday that Covid-19 cases were doubling in 4.1 days because of the spread that originated at the Tablighi Jamaat convention in Delhi. However, positive cases in Delhi doubled between April 2 and 4. Ministry’s data shows Delhi had 223 cases on April 2 and 447 on April 4.

In Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, the numbers doubled in three days. Maharashtra’s figure went up from 498 on April 4 to 1,018 on April 7. Telangana had 161 cases on April 3 and 322 on April 6 and UP’s114 on April 2 became 231on April 5.
Though fresh cases are being reported in Kerala and Karnataka, the numbers have not doubled over the last week. The numbers of patients who have recovered is relatively high in Kerala, 70, though second to Maharashtra where 79 persons have recovered but has a lower percentage considering the total positive case.
Senior health ministry officials have said that the 10 states reporting higher positive cases have a high record in testing too. Almost all of them have a figure higher than the national average of 82.6 per million. Delhi, which doubled its cases in two days, did 510 tests per million, followed by Kerala with 340 tests per million.
