Doctors are valiantly combating the coronavirus, but they lack the equipment which must be given to them in order to fight against this highly infectious disease. Personal protective equipment is indispensable for their protection;not giving them this equipment is tantamount to endangering their precious lives. The war against Covid-19 cannot be won without doctors; hence, the government must take concrete measures for their protection. Several doctors in Pakistan have already been infected with the coronavirus owing to the lack of safety kits. It is unfortunate to see pictures of healthcare personnel wearing plastic shopping bags to protect themselves, depicting a manifestly criminal negligence of those at the helm of affairs.
Recently, a young doctor from Gilgit-Baltistan sacrificed his life while treating Covid-19 patients. Had he been armed with the requisite equipment, he would perhaps not have lost his life. It is requested to the government officials to kindly show seriousness in this regard. Confusion and delay on this stage will only weaken our response and put us in a more precarious situation.
