HYDERABAD: Even as the national lockdown is winding down, authorities in Hyderabad have identified as many as 12 Covid-19 hotspots in the city based on the number of positive cases they have reported. Senior officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) told TOI that stringent restrictions on the movement of people have been imposed as 89 cases were reported from there.
The hotspots include select areas of Ramgopalpet near Paradise, Sheikhpet, Red Hills, Malakpet-Santoshnagar, Kukatpally, Yosufguda and Chandanagar among others.
Also called “containment clusters”, they include multiple residential and commercial localities which will now be completely sealed.

GHMC has identified 593 people who had returned to the city from the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi, out of which 63 tested positive. After screening their family members, another 45 positive cases were added to the list.
Officials on Wednesday asked the police for barricades and additional forces to restrict movement in these areas.
Cops, municipal staff will allow people to step out in emergency
People from outside will not enter these clusters and people whose houses fall in these areas will not step out,” said GHMC commissioner D S Lokesh Kumar.
Multi-disciplinary teams, which include police and municipal staff, will allow people to step out only if they have an emergency. Activity in these clusters will be monitored from the newly set up Covid command control room in GHMC.
“The teams will visit houses in these clusters to enquire about health of residents and people with symptoms will be shifted to state-run quarantine centres,” Badhavath Santhosh, GHMC additional commissioner, said.
The 12 clusters will see extensive sanitisation activity. “Even the staircase of apartments and railings of buildings will be sprayed with disinfectants. While moblie rythu bazars will supply vegetables at residents’ doorstep, the poor will be given rice and cash. Unlike other areas, these clusters will be under constant vigil with co-ordination of line departments including police,” said a GHMC official.
