Gadag district reported its first Covid-19 death after an-80-year-old lady of Ranganwad area, who turned positive to coronavirus infection on Tuesday, died in the wee hours of Thursday.

HUBBALLI: Gadag district reported its first Covid-19 death after an-80-year-old lady of Ranganwad area, who turned positive to coronavirus infection on Tuesday, died in the wee hours of Thursday.
The lady (P -166) was admitted in Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences( GIMS) Hospital on Saturday with difficulty in breathing. The lady was suffering from fever, cough and she had an acute respiratory infection.
Doctors said that she did not respond to the treatment and breathed her last around 1am on Thursday.
Deputy commissioner of Gadag MG Hiremath confirmed that she died due to cardiac arrest and her last rites will be performed as per the standard protocols. He also informed that all the 47 people whose throat swabs were sent to virology lab for infection turned negative to Covid-19 infection.
The district administration has announced high alert in the district, the entire Ranganwad and surrounding area has been announced as containment area and the area has been sealed. No one would be allowed to go outside and outsiders would not be allowed to enter the area. Police security has been beefed up. Essential goods would be delivered at the doorstep of the residents, he said.
The lady was unable to walk due to pain in her knees but she attended a family programme in SM Krishna Nagar recently, administration suspecting that she contracted the infection from that gathering. Contact tracing of the lady has been completed and all are in a quarantine facility, said sources in GIMS.
