PATNA: Unidentified criminals killed the priest of a temple in Saran district late on Wednesday night.
Police said the incident took place when the priest, Garib Das (65), was alone in the temple located at Mehandar village under Chaipur police outpost in Siwan district. SP Abhinav Kumar said the incident came to light when some local residents visited the temple on Thursday morning.
Though the main entrance of the temple was locked, blood stains were spotted on the floor, which led to the recovery of the priest’s body.
The deceased, stated to be a native of Masarakh in neighbouring Saran district, was serving at the temple for the last three decades. “Prima facie it appeared that the criminals attacked the priest with an intention to loot cash and valuables,” an official said.
