Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Pudukkottai district reports its first Covid-19 case

TRICHY: Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu on Monday reported its first Covid-19 case. The patient, a 23-year-old youth, is the son of a man who attended a Tablighi Jamaat conference in Delhi last month.
The asymptomatic patient is presently undergoing treatment in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy.
The 5km radius of Mirattunilai village panchayat in Pudukkottai district has been made a containment zone as soon as health officials were informed about the positive case.

“We got the confirmation from King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Chennai, where his sample was sent for test,” said Pudukkottai district collector P Uma Maheswari.
“His father was among 15 people from Pudukkottai district who attended the TJ conference in Delhi. His father, who tested negative, had been kept under hospital quarantine for 14 days and discharged. He had also served 14 days quarantine period at home. Now his son has tested positive,” she said.
