17 cops test positive for coronavirus in Gopalganj
Seventeen police personnel of a station have been infected with coronavirus in Gopalganj, district officials confirmed today.
Sixteen of them are receiving treatment in isolation at Muksudpur Muktijodhha Complex, which has been dedicated to treating Covid-19 patients, said Md Mahmudur Rahman, upazila health and family planning official in the area.
The other policeman was sent to Gopalganj General Hospital as he has been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, he said.
"We have collected samples of 60 policemen of Muksudpur Police Station. Of them, two assistant sub-inspectors and 15 constables have tested Covid-19 positive since April 14," the officer told our Faridpur correspondent.
All of them contracted the virus as they came in contact with one of their fellow constables, who was diagnosed with the virus before April 14, the officer added.
Gopalganj's Civil Surgeon Niaz Mohammad said, "Samples have been collected from 444 people in the district so far. We have received test reports of 379 samples, out of which 32 came back positive for coronavirus."
Apart from the 17 policemen, five people tested positive for Covid-19 in Gopalganj Sadar while another five in Tungipara, four in Kashiani and one in Kotalipara were confirmed, the civil surgeon said.
