NEW DELHI: After a vegetable vendor in south Delhi tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, the district authorities decided to screen all vendors to check the further spread of infection by the novel coronavirus.
“A vegetable vendor under ward no. 3 of Mehrauli has been found to be Covid-19 positive. He had not been setting up his cart after developing the symptoms,” said BM Mishra, south district DM.
The administration has traced the close contacts of the vendor and kept them at Terapanth Bhawan, a Covid care centre of Delhi government.
Efforts are being made to trace all the people who bought vegetables from him.
The DM has appealed to all residents to check their vendors’ health status before purchasing anything. “We are screening all vendors, but vigil by people will deter sick vendors from running their shops and stalls,” he said. “Do not abuse or misbehave with the sick vendors. Abandon purchase from them and notify us with all the details.”
