Kerala: Kottayam, Idukki brought under red zone

Kottayam and Idukki have been brought under red zone category as more positive cases are being reported from these districts. Of the 13 fresh cases reported on Monday, six are from Kottayam and four are from Idukki. At present Kottayam has 17 and Idukki has 14 active positive cases.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kottayam and Idukki have been brought under red zone category as more positive cases are being reported from these districts. Of the 13 fresh cases reported on Monday, six are from Kottayam and four are from Idukki. At present Kottayam has 17 and Idukki has 14 active positive cases.
Severe restrictions have been imposed in these two districts as the number of positive cases are increasing. In Idukki, 24 positive cases have been reported till date and the total is 20 in Kottayam.
In both these districts, the authorities are yet to trace the source of a few positive cases, which has raised concern.
The total number of cases reported in the state has now become 481, of which 123 positive cases are under treatment in various hospitals. As many as 20,301 people are placed under surveillance, of which 19,812 are under home isolation and 489 admitted to designated isolation facilities.
Till date, 23,271 samples of suspect cases have been sent for testing out of which 22,537 came as negative. Apart from this, 875 samples were taken from priority groups like health care workers, persons with high social exposure, workers, etc. as part of sentinel surveillance, of which 611 samples tested negative.
It was decided to increase the number of testing in the state in the high-level meeting convened on Sunday. As many as 3,056 samples were taken on Sunday from the general population, said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Meanwhile, test results of 13 Covid-19 patients under treatment have been declared negative out of which six are from Kannur, four are from Kozhikode and one each from Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam (Malappuram native) and Malappuram.

The chief minister said the red zone restriction will continue in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Malappuram. There are reports that people in Idukki are not maintaining the guidelines issued for maintaining lockdown and home quarantine.
He said there are no active positive cases in four districts - Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Wayanad. But there are people put under observation in these districts.
