UP: 12 new Covid-19 positive cases in Varanasi, three in Jaunpur

Twelve more persons in Varanasi were tested Covid-19 positive on Tuesday. In neighbouring Jaunpur, three migrant labourers from Mumbai were tested positive.

VARANASI: Twelve more persons in Varanasi were tested Covid-19 positive on Tuesday. In neighbouring Jaunpur, three migrant labourers from Mumbai were tested positive.
DM Varanasi, Kaushal Raj Sharma said that test reports received from BHU laboratory on Tuesday afternoon confirmed that a medicine trader, who was tested positive on April 25, has infected eight persons including his 50-year-old father, 30-year-old sister, 24-year-old wife and 18-month-old daughter apart from three employees of his shop and one customer of Pahadia area.

Three people from Rewri Talab area, which is containment zone of Madanpura hotspot were also found positive, he said, adding, they had remained in contact with a Tabhlighi Jamaat attendee of Karnataka.
A 60-year-old lawyer from Kazipura Khurd area of Sigra has also been found positive, said DM adding, he did not have any travel history hence his contact history is being checked. He had fever and was referred by DDU for sampling.
With these developments the total figures of Covid-19 positive cases in Varanasi reached to 49. Of them one had died on April 3 while eight had returned to their places after getting cured. Now, 40 active cases are in the district.
Regarding three new cases coming to light in Jaunpur, divisional commissioner said that samples of 22 migrant labourers, who had returned by hiding in trucks from Mumbai in past one week, had been screened and their samples sent to BHU laboratory on April 24. On the arrival of test report, three of them had been declared as infected.
