SI, chowkidar held in Banka for consuming liquor

PATNA: A sub-inspector of police and a chowkidar were arrested in Banka district on Tuesday on charges of consuming liquor in violation of provisions of the Bihar Excise and Prohibition Act, 2016.
DIG of Bhagalpur range Sujeet Kumar said the police swung into action after a video showing the sub-inspector, Ram Preet Paswan, receiving country liquor from a chowkidar, Yogendra Paswan, went viral on the social media on Monday.
The consignment was delivered to the sub-inspector near Samukhiya turning in Banka district. Though the sub-inspector escaped from the spot, the chowkidar was caught and brought to the Banka police station. He later confessed to his crime.
DIG Sujeet said the sub-inspector was also nabbed late on Monday night and produced in the court on Tuesday. The court sent both Ram Preet and Yoendra to 14-day judicial custody. The sub-inspector was put under suspension on Tuesday, he added.
