BHUBANESWAR: Four more persons tested positive for Covid-19 raising the total number of people infected by the virus in Odisha to 147.
Balangir district joined the list of corona affected districts in Odisha with two persons from the district reported positive for the virus on Friday. The two men, aged 22 and 18, have recently returned from Tamil Nadu, a government update said.
Fifteen of the 30 districts have reported positive cases by now.
Two others from Jajpur district, a 55-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman, who have recently returned from West Bengal tested positive for the virus. Earlier, a 58-year-old man from Balasore, with recent West Bengal travel history, had tested positive for the virus.
With this, the number of positive cases in Jajpur climbed to 38, next only to Khurda district (47) with Bhubaneswar accounting for all of them. Among those infected in Jajpur, 37 are linked to West Bengal while one person has a travel history to the Tablighi Jamaat headquarters in New Delhi.
Nearly half the people affected -- 73 out of 147 -- in the state has travel history to West Bengal, making for worrying statistics.
The number of active cases in Jajpur is now 37, the highest among the 30 districts. With 41 people recovering so far, the number of active cases across the state now stands at 105.
“Only 15% of the Covid-19 positive cases of the state had some symptoms at the time of testing. Rest 85% had no symptoms,” the health department has tweeted.
