These people with their visas expired were moving to Cooch-Behar in West Bengal from Jorhat in Assam. Superintendent of police of the district, Yuvraj has confirmed to ET, “These people are quarantined.”
Following the national wide lockdown these people were who are associated with fishery business were stuck up and their visas expired. They belonged to Kurigram of Bangladesh and had traveled with a Government pass of inter-district transit from Jorhat to Dhubri.
Sources in state government added that the Bangladesh Deputy High commission is informed about the matter. “These people are likely to be deported after necessary formalities.”
Meanwhile Mizoram government has approved an ordinance stipulating exemplary punishment for lockdown violation. 'The Ordinance for Containment and Prevention of COVID-19'' that seeks stringent punishment for those violating lockdown and creating public nuisance has been approved after being tabled by Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana.
