Akola reports one Covid death, Vid case count 608
Nagpur: Akola recorded its highest single-day surge in Covid-19 cases with 42 patients testing positive on Friday. With three cases in Nagpur and two each in Yavatmal and Amravati, Vidarbha recorded 49 cases on Friday.
A woman, who was being treated in the Covid-19 ward of the Akola GMCH, died on Friday, taking the death toll in city to 12.
Now, Vidarbha has 608 confirmed Covid-19 positive cases, including 27 deaths and one suicide.
Of these, 117 patients have recovered and discharged till date while many are on way to recovery.
Nagpur recorded three positive cases on Friday, which could be because three major labs in the city were engaged in testing samples from Malegaon in Nashik district. Many more samples from Nagpur city will be tested on Saturday and Sunday, said sources.
With cases reported from new areas on Thursday, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) increased the number of containment zones in the city on Friday.
Yavatmal received 23 test reports on Friday morning. Of these, two tested positive while the rest were negative. The two who tested positive are from the family of 50-year-old teacher, a resident of Wali Saheb Nagar of Ner Municipal Council jurisdiction, who had tested positive earlier. The district administration has already sealed the area.

The teacher has another residence in Karanja Lad tehsil in adjoining Washim district. It is suspected he had come in contact with many in both Ner tehsil and Karanja Lad.
The teacher had approached at least three clinics in Karanja Lad and one in Yavatmal before reaching Yavatmal GMC where he tested positive. Thirteen persons, including his family members, were brought to the isolation wards of Yavatmal GMC on Thursday. Out of the five members of his family, swab samples of two tested positive.
On Friday, the Yavatmal GMC sent 57 swab samples to AIIMS, Nagpur, and the reports are awaited.
In Amravati, a 53-year-old male from Masanganj and a 36-year-old man from Haiderpura tested positive on Friday. Both the patients are already in Covid hospital as they are contacts of patients detected earlier. Now, Haiderpura has recorded 10 patients while Masanganj has two cases so far.
Amravati has recorded total 78 cases, including 61 active and under treatment, 11 deceased, five recovered and one referred to GMCH, Nagpur.
Chandrapur did not record any new patient on Friday. Health administration has prepared a list of 84 contacts of the lone positive patient from here. Out of them, 52 samples were sent for testing and so far 44 have been found negative.
