Chandigarh's first Shramik train to leave for Gonda at 6pm today

CHANDIGARH: The first 'Shramik Special' train will ply from Chandigarh to Gonda in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday at 6 pm. As many as 1,200 passengers are expected to board the train.
There are two points at ISBT, Sector 43 and Manimajra where the migrants will be screened. The station will be barricaded from Chandigarh and Panchkula side and entry will be from the parcel area and VIP gate.
Official said the train will ply from platform number 1.
At the same time, the UT administration has demanded as many as 17 Shramik Special trains to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from the Ambala division.
The authorities have submitted a list to the railways about the areas where the stranded migrants want to travel from the city.
Sources said there are around 22,000 migrants who have registered themselves on the Chandigarh administration portal. An official said the Chandigarh administration has asked the railways authorities that the first train to Gonda should be planned from the Chandigarh railway station on Sunday.
G M Singh, divisional railway manager, Ambala division, said his office has received a list of states for which Chandigarh wants special trains. He said the railways has informed the administration that after approval from the Bihar government, a train will be planned for the same.
The RPF official said instructions have been issued to the station head that no person is allowed to enter the railway station on his own.
According to the survey, which was conducted by the railways a fortnight ago, it was found that 22,000 residents of various states are stranded in Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab.
