CHANDIGARH/KARNAL/AMBALA/HISAR: The Covid-19 count of Haryana reached 780 on Tuesday as 50 new cases were reported from across the state, including 44 from NCR districts of Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat.
Five patients were discharged from hospitals and now Haryana has 427 active cases
The highest number of cases are from Gurugram(16), where the overall coronavirus count is now 161.
It is followed by 15 cases in Faridabad, whose tally now is 117, and 13 in Sonipat, where the figure is now 118.
Most of the cases in the three districts are linked to vegetable vendors and Asia's biggest grain market, Azad Mandi in New Delhi, which is the source of fruits and vegetables sold in NCR districts.
A case each also came from Ambala, Panchkula, Jind, Karnal, Rewari and Kurukshetra. Three cases were also reported from Hisar, but these were yet to be added to the state bulletin. In Karnal, the patient is a 22-year-old man with travel history of Delhi. Deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said the man returned on Sunday and reported to the health department himself.
DC Yadav said the man lives in Bason Gate area. "We have declared the locality a containment zone and sealed it. Health teams had also been deputed to conduct a door-to-door survey," he said.
He added the man was asymptomatic, but had been admitted to Adesh Medical College and Hospital, Shahabad, a designated Covid-19 hospital. He said his family members had also been quarantined and their samples collected too.
From Ambala, a 22-year-old man from the city's Model Town tested positive in Panchkula district, district civil surgeon Dr Kuldeep Singh said. Authorities have sealed a locality with nearly 50 houses in Model Town. "The patient went to a private hospital himself and has been admitted there since Sunday. His test was conducted on Monday," Dr Kuldeep said. "Around 28 of his contacts, including family members have been traced and their samples will be sent for Covid-19 testing."
