    'Non-exclusive agreement' signed with Zydus-Cadila for COVID-19 antibody test kit: ICMR

    • The ICMR has signed a "non-exclusive agreement" with Zydus-Cadila for producing indigenous antibody detection kit for COVID-19 after three other firms refused the offer.
    • In a statement, the ICMR said on external validation, the IgG ELISA test kit produced by ICMR and National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune has been found to have sensitivity and specificity of 98.7% and 100% respectively.
    • The ICMR said it has signed a "non-exclusive agreement" with Zydus Cadila, which means the apex health research body continues to have the right to offer any other company which comes forward to take up the production of ELISA.

    Oxford coronavirus vaccine found protective in small monkey study

    • A closely watched coronavirus vaccine being developed by scientists at Oxford University appears protective in a small study of six monkeys, promising findings that led to the start of human trials late last month, U.S. and British researchers reported on Thursday.
    • British drugmaker AstraZeneca last month announced it had teamed up with researchers at the Oxford Vaccine Group and the Jenner Institute, which are developing the vaccine.
    • According to the report, some of the monkeys given a single shot of the vaccine developed antibodies against the virus within 14 days, and all developed protective antibodies within 28 days, before being exposed to high doses of the virus.

    Railways to seek passengers' address details; tickets on regular trains cancelled till Jun 30

    • The Railways has made it mandatory for its passengers to give their destination addresses for contact-tracing, if needed, while indicating that only special trains will run till June 30, but full refund will be given for cancelled regular trains.
    • A provision has already been made on the IRCTC website to do so from May 13.
    • In a separate advisory, the Railways said that all tickets booked before and during the lockdown period for travel till June 30 will be automatically cancelled, indicating that normal passenger services are unlikely to resume by that date.
    • However, Shramik Specials introduced from May 1 and special train services that started on May 12 will continue.

    • Moved by the plight of migrant labourers walking on roads, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday instructed officials to set up afacility for every 50 km to supply food, water and basic necessities to them.
    • He also asked officials to chalk out a plan to help these workers get transportation to reach their destination safely without having to walk long distances, an official release said.
    • "Moved by the scenes on the roads, the CM has ordered officials toset up afacility every 50 km to supply food, water and basic necessities to these groups of people who are walking on the roads," the release said.
