JALANDHAR: After sending around 50 trains for travel of migrants stranded in Jalandhar, Punjab government has decided to run free buses daily to facilitate travel of migrant labourers to 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Jalandhar deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said the state government would run these buses free of cost to send migrants to Gautam Budh Nagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Bulandshehar, Muzzafarnagar, Baghpat, Saharanpur, Mathura and Hapur.
Two local officials will tie up with district magistrates of the 10 districts and get details about the place where the buses are to be sent, he said.
Health department teams will screen workers, who would be asked through calls and messages to reach the bus stand at least four hours before departure. Sharma said 30 passengers will be allowed in a bus and food and water will be provided.
Police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said elaborate security arrangements would be made to check unauthorised entry.
