NOIDA: The district administration sent seven more trains for migrant
workers on Monday. By night, Gautam Budh Nagar had managed to send a total of 16 trains to different destinations in
Bihar and
Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, no request has been made to the railways for more services so far.
On the first day (May 16) five trains had left the city while the next day four more were sent from Dadri and Dankaur railway stations.
The ones terminating in Bihar left from Dadri, the other four trains headed to eastern Uttar Pradesh districts picked up passengers from Dankaur. The administration has also roped in buses on a daily basis to ferry stranded migrants.
By Sunday, 5,041 migrants had left the city. Among them, 4,370 had taken the trains and 671 had left in buses. Officials said most of the trains that left Noida on Monday were packed to capacity. Trains from Dadri left for Khagaria, Chhapra and Nalanda, the remaining four were bound for Balia, Deoria, Gorakhpur and Balrampur.
On the first day, two trains had departed with just 66% occupancy.
“Only the Nalanda bound
train was end-to-end since more than 2,000 migrants from the district had registered,” said an administrative officer from Dadri sub-division. He also added that apart from dedicated service to Nalanda, another train heading to West Champaran also halted at Nalanda to drop passengers.
