Amphan to weaken in six hours, will make landfall as ‘Severe Cyclonic Storm’

Super Cyclone Amphan is expected to weaken into an ‘Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm’ within the next six hours, stated the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its statement issued at 8.15 am Tuesday. As an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm, the wind speed will continue to remain high and range between 200-210 kmph.

The IMD has now downgraded the landfall intensity to ‘Very Severe Cyclonic’ storm with a wind speed ranging between 135-145 kmph to 160 kmph. The landfall is expected tomorrow afternoon or evening along Digha and Hatiya islands in Bangladesh.

Coastal districts of Odisha will Tuesday receive light to moderate rainfall. However, heavy rainfall is most likely over Puri and Khordha today. In West Bengal, moderate to heavy rains would be experienced over East Medinipur, South and North 24 Parganas on Tuesday.
