Six killed, one injured in Etawah road accident

KANPUR: Six vegetable vendors were killed and one injured in a road accident in Etawah district on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Pakke Bagh area near Friends Colony police station while the vegetable vendors had gone to sell veggies in the market and were returning home when the pickup loader they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck.Police identified the deceased as Raju, Rajesh, Jagdish, Jageshwar, Pappu and Brijesh. The injured was identified as Monu.
"Five people died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The injured person was admitted to Bhimrao Ambedkar district hospital," SSP Akash Tomar told TOI.
SSP Etawah Akash Tomar, who supervised the rescue operation, said that an investigation is on in the incident.
“The bodies of the deceased are being shifted to mortuary for postmortem. We have impounded the truck and booked a case against it's owner and the driver. Searches are underway to make their arrest possible,” the SSP said.
Expressing grief over the incident, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured person.
