112 dengue cases reported in Kerala this month

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amidst reporting of Covid-19 cases, dengue and fever cases are also increasing in the state. This has put the health department in deep trouble since many people are coming with fever and cough, which are the symptoms of Covid-19.
"More number of people are coming with fever and cough at the primary health centres. We give prescribed medicines to those who do not have any travel history or relatives who have come from outside the state," said a doctor of a primary health centre (PHC) in the coastal area of Thiruvananthapuram.
Even though the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued advisory that people with influenza like illness also will have to be tested for Covid-19, the health department is not able to execute this order since thousands of people are reaching PHCs and community health centres (CHCs) with fever and cough.
However, doctors working at the primary level hospitals are referring serious fever cases to the general hospitals and medical college hospitals. "We are not ready to take any risk," said a doctor.
A total of 112 dengue cases have so far been reported across the state this month. In addition to this, 36,433 fever cases have been reported. "More dengue cases have been reported from Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kasaragod. The intermittent rain is the main cause of worry. This would lead to an increase in mosquito density," said an official with the health department.
The state has witnessed 950 dengue cases and 6,48,752 fever cases this year. Apart from this, 213 cases of chikungunya, 214 cases of leptospirosis and 61 cases of H1N1 have been reported this year.
