Record 149 new cases in Karnataka, 50% from Mandya

Karnataka recorded 149 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, crossing the 100-mark in 24 hours for the first time.With this, the total number of cases in the state stands at 1,395.

BENGALURU: Karnataka recorded 149 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, crossing the 100-mark in 24 hours for the first time. With this, the total number of cases in the state stands at 1,395.
The highest number of cases — 71 — during the day was reported from Mandya, followed by 22 from Davanagere, 13 Kalaburagi, 10 Shivamogga, six Bengaluru, five Bagalkot, four each from Udupi and Uttara Kannada, three Hassan and one each from Bidar, Vijayapura, Raichur, Yadgir, Gadag and Chitradurga.

Chikkamagaluru district, in the green zone till now, reported five cases: A doctor, a pregnant woman and three Mumbai returnees. Only Ramanagara and Chamarajnagar districts are untouched by Covid-19 in the state now.
Of the 149 new patients, 113 (or 75%) had travel history to other states: 105 to Maharashtra, three each to Gujarat and Kerala and one each to Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. All 71 positive cases of Mandya are linked to Mumbai.
3 Covid deaths in 24 hours
Three Covid-19 patients — one each from Ballari, Vijayapura and Bengaluru — died in the past 24 hours. All three were male and had comorbidities. Karnataka now has 40 Covid-19 fatalities. A 61-year-old man with travel history to Bengaluru died in Ballari. He had developed severe acute respiratory infection, besides suffering from cardiac ailments and undergoing a surgery.
A 65-year-old man from Viajyapura, who suffered from hypertension, diabetes mellitus and heart ailment, was brought dead to a hospital in Vijayapura on May 18. His throat swab taken for testing turned out to be positive on Tuesday.
In Bengaluru, a 54-yearold man admitted to a private hospital with cardiac issues died on May 18. His reports came positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. Sixty-eight of the freshly infected are women.
