BHUBANESWAR: Keeping the effect of cyclone Amphan in mind, the railways has suspended Shramik Special train services in coastal areas in the state till May 21. No such special train carrying migrant workers came to any station located in coastal districts on Wednesday.
The Bhubaneswar-New Delhi AC special train was run on a diverted route to avoid coastal districts of Odisha like Bhadrak and Balasore and some parts of West Bengal affected by the cyclone.
This train starting from Bhubaneswar will run on diverted route via Bhubaneswar-Angul-Sambalpur City-Jharsuguda-Rourkela-Tata bypassing Bhadrak-Balasore-Hijli route till May 22. The return train from New Delhi will also be run on this diverted route till Thursday.
Meanwhile, Over Head Electric (OHE) line between Cuttack and Paradeep has been disconnected since 4.40am on Wednesday. Goods traffic has also been suspended in this section. Paradeep Port train operations were suspended keeping the gale in mind. As many as 14 trains to Paradeep were lined up at various stations on Wednesday.
Due to heavy wind, a few galvalume roof sheets were flown away at a few stations between Cuttack and Paradeep. Wagon maintenance shed roof has been damaged at Paradeep. OHE line supply between Jakhapura-Kapilas Road was suspended for 30 minutes on Wednesday morning, East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources said.
Inward goods traffic was stopped to Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district from Tuesday midnight. Outward goods traffic from Dhamra Port has been suspended after departure of last goods train to TATA on Tuesday. As a matter of precautions, four goods trains for Dhamra port were waiting at various stations instead of running amid the stormy weather.
But goods traffic on Talcher-Angul-Sambalpur line and Cuttack-Palasa line was normal on Wednesday.

Official sources said train services to coastal Odisha destinations like Bhadrak, Balasore, Nergundi, Khurda Road and Jagannathpur stations will be taken up after reviewing the aftermath of the cyclone. "Decision on resumption of train services for coastal Odisha will depend on the severity of the damage due to the cyclone," said a senior railway officer.
However, Shramik Special trains are expected to continue for western Odisha. Balangir station received two such trains, while Nuapada got a train carrying migrant workers. One such train will leave for Rourkela from Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
