Maharashtra crosses 40,000 cases

Maharashtra crossed the grim milestone of 40,000 cases on May 21 with the State reporting 2,345 Covid-19 cases to take the cumulative tally to 41,642.
While this was the second-highest single-day surge till date , it was offset by the highest single-day recoveries in the State, with 1408 patients being discharged to take the total number of discharged till date to 11,726.
64 new deaths were reported on May 21, taking the total number of fatalities to 1454.  Mumbai’s case tally has now crossed the 25,000 mark to reach 25,550 cases, while it’s death toll has risen to 882. As many as 41 of the new deaths reported on May 21 were from Mumbai city, nine from Malegaon city in Nashik district and seven from Pune district among other parts of the state.

Gujarat cases near 13K mark, death toll 773

The number of positive Covid-19 cases in Gujarat mounted to 12,910 on May 21 with the addition of 371 new cases. The state also reported 24 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking its Covid-19 toll to 773.
There are 6,649 active cases in the state at present, out of which the condition of 6,597 is stable, whereas 52 critical patients are still on ventilator support.
Till date, Ahmedabad has reported 619 deaths (80 per cent of the state’s death toll), followed by Surat (57), Vadodara (32), Gandhinagar (11), Anand (9), Bhavnagar (8) and Panchmahals (6), among others.
Health authorities have so far carried out a total of 166,152 tests in the state, out of which 12,910 have been found positive while 153,242 returned negative.
Right now, 4,96,730 people are quarantined in the state — 4,85,051 at home, 11,049 at government facilities and 630 at private facilities.

Madhya Pradesh reports 248 new cases

Madhya Pradesh on May 21 registered 248 new COVID-19 cases, taking the overall count to 5,981. The death toll climbed to 270. Two patients died in Indore, and one death was reported in Ujjain and Neemuch each. As for recoveries, 110 patients were discharged from hospitals across the State on the day after being cured of the illness. So far, 2,843 patients have recovered, says the State Directorate of Health Services.

Rajasthan reports 212 new cases

Four deaths – two in Jaipur and one each in Bharatpur and Sikar – take the COVID-19 related mortality figures in Rajasthan to 151. A total of 212 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in the State on May 21, taking the tally to 6,227. Of the total number of patients, 3,485 have recovered and 3,115 have been discharged. As of now, the State has 2,591 active cases.

Over 500 fresh cases for 3 consecutive days in Delhi; death toll to 194

The coronavirus death toll in Delhi has climbed to 194, while 571 fresh cases of COVID-19 infection reported on May 21, the highest single-day spike here, took the total in the city to 11,659, authorities said. The previous highest spike in fresh cases — 534 — was recorded on May 20. On May 19, 500 fresh cases were reported. This is the third consecutive day, when 500 or more fresh cases have been reported in a day in Delhi.

181 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in Uttar Pradesh, total climbs to 5,356

Uttar Pradesh reported 181 fresh COVID-19 cases on May 21, taking the total number of coronavirus cases to 5,356 while 127 people have died of the disease so far, officials said. Many of the fresh COVID-19 cases were attributed by officials to migrants who returned from other states recently.

COVID-19 tally in Andhra increases to 2,605 with 45 new cases

COVID-19 count in Andhra Pradesh went up to 2,605 with another 45 new positive cases reported across the state in the last 24 hours on May 21. One more death in Nellore took the toll to 54.

Five deaths, 38 fresh COVID-19 cases in Telangana

A total of 38 new cases were registered of whom 12 were laborers returning to the state from other parts of the country. Since people began returning to Telangana from other states, as many as 89 of them in different districts in the state have tested positive for the disease. Telangana now has a total of 608 active cases with the state recording a total of 1,661 Covid-19 cases to date, according to the daily Covid-19 bulletin released by the health department.

Total COVID-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh climb to 138

Twenty-seven people tested positive for novel coronavirus in Himachal Pradesh on May 21, taking the total number of cases in the state so far to 138, officials said. With 55 people cured, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the state now stand at 79. Thirty-two of the cases are from Kangra, 26 from Hamirpur, five each from Solan and Bilaspur, four from Mandi, two from Chamba, two each from Sirmaur, Una and one from Kullu, they said.

COVID-19 cases in Bihar rise to 1,900

As many as 28 more COVID-19 positive cases take the total number in Bihar to 1,900. All male from East Champaran , West Champaran, Begusarai, Purnea, Banka, Patna, Madhubani and Supaul districts.

11 new COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh

At least 11 more people, mostly migrant workers, tested positive for coronavirus in Chhattisgarh on May 21, taking the state’s tally to 126. Most of these patients were migrant laborers who recently returned to their hometowns from different states of the country and were staying in quarantine center.

3 new coronavirus cases reported in Punjab

3 new coronavirus cases were reported on May 21 in Punjab, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This brings the total reported cases of coronavirus in Punjab to 2,005. Among the total people infected as on date, 1,794 have recovered and 38 have passed away.

Coronavirus cases in Haryana rise to 1,005

With 12 more people testing positive for Covid-19, nine of them in Faridabad, the total number of coronavirus cases in Haryana rose to 1,005 on May 21. Kurukshetra reported two fresh cases and Mahendragarh had one new case, according to the state health department’s daily bulletin. More than 60 per cent of the 1,005 cases have been reported from the four worst-hit districts of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhajjar. While Gurgaon has 226 cases, Faridabad 179, Sonipat 147 and Jhajjar has reported 91 Covid-19 infections, making it a total of 643 cases in these four districts which fall in the National Capital Region. The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the state is 321 while the number patients who have been discharged is 670. The state has a recovery rate of 66.67 per cent, fatality rate at 1.39 per cent while tests per million being conducted are 3,422.

24 new cases in Kerala, over 80,000 under observation

Kerala registered 24 COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day on May 21, all returnees from abroad and other states, taking the tally to 690 while over 80,000 are under observation. With eight people recovering from the infection, the active cases stood at 177 and they are presently under treatment at various hospitals, according to an official release.

743 new coronavirus cases reported in Tamil Nadu

743 new coronavirus cases were reported on May 21 in Tamil Nadu, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This brings the total reported cases of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu to 13,191. Among the total people infected as on date, 5,882 have recovered and 87 have passed away.
