NOIDA: As the demand to open up the borders between Noida and Delhi grows, the Noida administration has prepared a report explaining why that should not be done. The report will be submitted to the Supreme Court and the state government in response to a case regarding this.
The epidemiological report, a copy of which is with TOI, states that opening the borders would make Noida more vulnerable to the Covid-19 outbreak.
“The most important source of infection in Gautam Budh Nagar has come up as contact from Delhi. Out of 293 cases (as of May 20), 50 cases can be attributed to source from Delhi,” the report states.

Health officials said nine indicators explain why maintaining border restrictions between the two cities will help control the disease. “The report explains the epidemiological perspective of the health department based on data from both cities,” said district surveillance officer Dr Sunil Dohare.
The report says Delhi has more positive cases (11,088 compared to Noida’s 293), more active cases (5,720 compared to Noida’s 81), more deaths (176 compared to five in Noida), higher sample positivity (7.3 cases per 100 as opposed to Noida’s 3.24), lower recovery rate (47% compared to Noida’s 70%), more containment zones (69, Noida has 63), a much bigger population (2,04,14,000 as opposed to Noida’s 21 lakh), more patients in isolation wards (2,358 compared to Noida’s 81) and in home isolation (3362, none in Noida). All of this, the report states, would mean that opening up the borders with Delhi could lead to a surge in Covid-19 cases.
While the decision on unsealing the Noida-Delhi border has been referred to the state by the district, no order has been issued yet.
