VARANASI: Varanasi and surrounding districts of Jaunpur, Azamagarh, Ghazipur and Ballia have registered arrival of over 1 lakh migrant workers from Mumbai, Gujarat and southern states on board over 100 Shramik Special trains originating from different parts of the country since Thursday afternoon, creating logistical problems for the administration.

District administration officials were on Saturday found struggling to make necessary arrangements, especially of buses and other public transport for the migrants as railway officials could not provide prior information of the trains. Officials of Northern Railway and North Eastern Railway said they had no information.
In view of the increased load, Manduadih railway station was also opened.
After thermal scanning and other health examination of passengers by joint teams of doctors and paramedical staff, the passengers were asked to board buses to reach their destination, said Varanasi divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal.
All buses in depots of Varanasi, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Ghazipur and private buses were also arranged.
