UP: Two inmates arrested within 24 hours of their escape from Ghazipur jail, head warder suspended

Two inmates aged 19 and accused in case of sexual harassment and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences act who had escaped from Ghazipur district jail on May 23 were arrested by the police from Ghazipur-Varanasi bypass on Sunday evening.

LUCKNOW: Two inmates aged 19 and accused in case of sexual harassment and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences act who had escaped from Ghazipur district jail on May 23 were arrested by the police from Ghazipur-Varanasi bypass on Sunday evening.
The duo- Himanshu Yadav and Vikas Prakash were trying to flee towards Nepal, and were held after 23 hours of their run, said the police officials.

An enquiry into the lapses of other jail officials has been lodged under deputy inspector general of prisons, Varanasi, BR Verma on Sunday.
Prisons Spokesperson, Santosh Verma said that under trails- HimanshuYadav and Vikas Prakash were lodged in the quarantine barrack number 10 of the jail on May 22.
"On Saturday, during attendance by deputy jailor Ram Shanker Shukla the duo were found to be missing. Immediately the alarm bells were pressed and district administration and the police were informed. They all carried out search operation but in vain," said Verma.
On Sunday, during probe some marks were found of the inmates on the main jail wall which suggests that the duo leaped over the wall to escape, he said.
Director General of Prisons, Anand Kumar has instructed the DIG Varanasi (Prisons) to conduct a probe and send a report forthwith.
