Here is a good news, bad news-type of situation. The bad news is that the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck will maintain the dimensions shown on the prototype, which means you will need a specially-made garage to park it in.
The good news is that a smaller truck will probably made later, because Elon Musk is keeping that option in mind.
Right after the big unveiling in September 2019, people noticed that, at 231.7 inches (588 cm) long, 79.8 inches (203 cm) wide and 75 inches (190.5 cm) tall, the Cybertruck was too big to fit into a regular garage. This meant buyers could either park it outside the house or build a separate garage especially for it.
In April this year, Musk took to Twitter to say that the production-ready Cybertruck would be smaller. A 3% reduction on the outside and a 1.5% reduction on the interior would make the final version fit inside a regular garage, while still being “roomy” enough to beat rival, non-electric trucks in terms of available space.
The new teaser for Jay Leno’s Garage released at the weekend has Musk confirming the reduction, although he estimates it at about 5%.
With that in mind, Musk has had another change of heart: the Cybertruck won’t be smaller, after all. “Reviewed design with Franz [von Holzhausen, Tesla’s Chief Designer] last night,” he says on Twitter. “Even 3% smaller is too small. Will be pretty much this size. We’ll probably do a smaller, tight world truck at some point.”
So the good news is that, some time down the line, Tesla will offer a regular-sized e-truck for those customers who can’t afford a specially-made garage or who won’t park it in the street / driveway. Another piece of good news, though unrelated to size, is that the Cybertruck will be tough enough to chase storms in – from within the storm.
